Why Agencia?
My name is Amanda Zamora and I’m an entrepreneur, journalist and founding publisher of The 19th. I launched Agencia Media in 2024 after spending more than two decades reporting, packaging and delivering the news at places like The Washington Post, ProPublica, The Texas Tribune, and The 19th.
Over my career, I’ve seen the news industry contract as digital platforms captured more attention and revenue. I’ve seen people’s trust in news decline, our politics become more polarized, and communities — particularly communities of color — become more vulnerable to misinformation and dis-information. But I’ve also seen independent media operators rally audiences around innovative and fact-based storytelling, meeting people’s information needs while also making them feel seen and heard.
What do these organizations have in common?
A community-first approach that connects people with information — and each other — in an increasingly fragmented world. Agencia exists to help organizations seeking to better serve and center underserved audiences with news and information that makes people’s lives tangibly better.
